Supervisory Youth Programs Specialist / Youth Programs Director
Directs, plans, and evaluates comprehensive youth programs and services for children and teens, including school-age care, sports, and recreation activities.
Responsibilities
- Directs, plans, develops, promotes, executes and evaluates youth programs and services which include management and operation of a teen center (if applicable), an accredited school age care program, sports and fitness program, single-day, overnight, and extended field trips and tours, swimming, social events, crafts, music, self-directed activities, instructional classes, recreational and leisure activities, teen and preteen councils and clubs, youth sponsorship programs, summer day camp, and logistic support for out-of-town and out-of-country visiting youth organizations.
- Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
- Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Youth Center, ensuring that all Youth Programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
- Represents Youth Programs with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
- Responsible for the financial operation of the Youth Programs, the facilities, grounds, equipment, health and safety.
- Ensures program meets established financial goals.
Requirements
Basic Requirement
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included or was supplemented by major study in youth development, psychology, youth studies, recreation, physical education, or an equivalent field of study. Or combination of education and experience.
Specialized Experience GS-11
One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09 equivalent. Examples include professional knowledge of theories, principles, and techniques of education and training of child and youth growth and development; knowledge of learning and recreational activities; knowledge of food service regulations; knowledge of budgetary and financial management.
Specialized Experience GS-12
One year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11 equivalent. Examples include professional knowledge of youth development, education and recreation principles and methods; knowledge of safety and security regulations; knowledge of budget, financial and resource management.
Education Substitution
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education may substitute for GS-11. No education substitution for GS-12.
Time-in-Grade
Current GS employees must meet time-in-grade requirements: 1 year at GS-09 for GS-11, 1 year at GS-11 for GS-12.
