Who We Are
The Army & Air Force Exchange Service, also known as “the Exchange,” is the retailer on US Army and Air Force installations worldwide. An $8 billion enterprise ranked among the top retailers, the Exchange operates department stores, convenience stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and an internet shopping site to serve Soldiers, Airmen, and their families. In addition to US bases in Germany, Italy, England, Turkey, South Korea, and Japan, the Exchange operates stores for US troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries in the region. The Exchange ensures Soldiers and Airmen have access to US goods and services, wherever they serve.
Our Focus
We are seeking associates who have a passion for delivering an extraordinary customer experience and a passion for serving those who serve, our Soldiers, Airmen, and their families.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Completion of high school or the equivalent.
- Retail experience, demonstrated willingness, and potential for additional responsibility.
Additional Considerations
- SOFA Related Requirements: Applications will be accepted from locally available U.S. citizens who do not have dual Japanese and U.S. citizenship. U.S. citizens with permanent or temporary Japanese residency (i.e., “zairyu card” holders) must cancel their Japanese residency status to be employed in an Exchange U.S. payroll position resulting in “SOFA status.” With “SOFA status,” the selectee is exempt from Japanese taxes on income earned from the Exchange and enjoys duty-free purchase privileges. However, having “SOFA status” means the selectee represents the United States in Japan in a quasi-Ambassadorial role and is held accountable for off-base misconduct.
- Resume Requirements: In compliance with President Trump’s Executive Order 13932, the Okinawa Exchange will only review applications from candidates whose resume is 2 pages or less. It is highly recommended to include your current legal status in Japan (SOFA dependent, active duty, contractor, resident, tourist, etc.).
