Japanese Cultural Analyst & Linguist
Provide translation, interpretation, and cultural analysis to support U.S.-Japan bilateral maritime operations in Okinawa.
The Opportunity
Provide linguist services in translation and interpretation in support of joint and bilateral maritime objectives of the U.S. and Japan. Conduct Japanese and American cultural analysis and provide guidance and advice to optimize bilateral understanding and communications in English and Japanese. Facilitate U.S.-Japanese bilateral military efforts at the tactical and operational levels of military operations, including social events, community engagement events, and key leader engagements in a variety of civil and military environments and settings such as media or press engagements, table-top discussion and wargames, military planning, and execution of exercises and operations. Attend joint, bilateral, or multinational planning conferences, working groups, and site surveys to provide linguist support to client attendees on the conduct of maritime operations, activities, and engagements. Attend events that will occur in austere environments, on ships, and in aircraft, which includes occasional evening and weekend work. Review, analyze, and translate letters, invitations, certificates, plot plans, procedures, briefs, military planning documents, and a variety of other related documents as directed by the client. This position is located in Okinawa, Japan.
Requirements
You Have
- 2+ years of experience with military operations and coordination with adjacent components and higher headquarters commands
- 2+ years of experience with translation and interpretation support
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of military organization and culture of joint U.S. Forces and partner allies in the U.S. Indo-Pacific Area of Operations
- Knowledge of multiple Department of Defense networks for information gathering, including Non-classified Internet Protocol Router, Secret Internet Protocol Router, and CENTRIX
- Knowledge of Japanese culture, Japanese military organization and culture, the U.S.-Japan Alliance, and how U.S. Forces interact or integrate with the Japan Self-Defense Forces
- Ability to advise leadership on cultural matters to achieve military objectives
- Ability to speak, read, and write in the Japanese and English languages to communicate complex topics to senior military and civilian leaders and their respective staffs
- Secret clearance
- HS diploma or GED
Nice If You Have
- Experience with translation and interpretation support for the military
- Knowledge of military terms for all branches of service and military organization and culture of the U.S. military, Japanese Self-Defense Force, and Joint Forces in the Indo-Pacific region in English and Japanese
- Bachelor's degree in Japanese Language or Culture

This position is onsite in Okinawa, Japan.
Compensation
Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $61,900.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD).
