High Voltage Electrician Leader
Leads a team of electricians in installing, modifying, testing, and repairing high-voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines.
Responsibilities
- Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led).
- Provides leadership, instruction and skill in the installation, modification, testing, repair, and maintenance of transformers, converters, regulators, cables, switches, circuit breakers, mechanical and electronic systems, and other circuit elements found in substations.
- Provides leadership, instruction and skill in the installation, modification, connection, inspection, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
- Leads and directs in the troubleshooting of distribution circuits and generating and controlling equipment.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and maintains various hand and power tools and test equipment such as oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, digital test equipment, and cable locating and fault finding equipment.

Screen-out element: Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician Leader without more than normal supervision.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Knowledge of technical practices to plan, layout, and complete maintenance or repair of high-voltage equipment and lines.
- Knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution lines (transformers, switches, circuit breakers, etc.).
- Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and instruments.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting and locating defects.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and practices.
- Skill in using and maintaining electrical tools and test equipment (oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, etc.).
- Ability to install, modify, test, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain high voltage electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines.
- Ability to use electrical drawings, blueprints, circuit diagrams, and electronic schematics.
Physical effort:
- Frequently lift/pull/carry up to 40 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Work aloft on poles, at ground level, in trenches or manholes.
- Bending, stooping, climbing, standing for long periods.
- Must distinguish colors.
Working conditions:
- Indoors and outdoors; exposure to high voltage shock, burns, falls, noise, heat, chemicals.
- Use protective devices (earplugs, safety hats, nonconductive gloves and footwear).
