Responsible for overseeing and coordinating activities at a designated pool. Serves as lead lifeguard and performs lifeguard duties.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate activities at a designated pool, including open swim, swim lessons, water aerobics, scuba classes, pool parties, lap swim, etc., ensuring the facility is opened at scheduled times with adequate staffing.
  • Oversee pool operations during scheduled shifts, ensuring staff complies with current policies, procedures, and written instructions.
  • Continuously observe the swimming area to ensure the safety of patrons, maintaining order and enforcing established rules of safety and behavior.
  • Take immediate and appropriate action to rescue swimmers in trouble and administer first aid, calling for medical assistance, and following established procedures in the event of injury, accident, near drowning, or drowning.
  • Clean and maintain swimming facilities, including the pool, bathhouses, dressing rooms, and showers, ensuring they are kept sanitary and meet established standards for inspections.
  • Ensure hourly chemical checks are conducted and documented, and inspect facilities, reporting problems to the supervisor.
  • Manage admissions, checking in patrons, issuing color-coded bracelets, accepting payments, and completing cash accountability and other reports.
  • Monitor work schedules, report problems to the supervisor, and distribute/balance workload in accordance with planned activities.
  • Provide on-the-job training to new employees and monitor the proper rotation of lifeguards for stands or breaks.
  • Resolve routine complaints with minimal impact to the activity, referring more complex situations to the supervisor.

Position is a position of trust and may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Eligibility and Application Requirements:

  • The area of consideration is US Citizens and legal US residents in Okinawa, Japan.
  • Applicants must meet the experience requirements described below.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work.
  • Applicants must provide proof of eligibility with the application by the closing date.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Prior experience as a lifeguard.
  • Knowledge of pool safety and pool maintenance requirements.
  • Prior training or experience demonstrating leadership abilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry 40lbs unassisted and participate in recurring physical fitness training.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Water Safety Instructor Certificate is desirable.
